Ensuring equal opportunities for Disabled Individuals

Thomas Alva Edison was born on Feb 11, 1847 in a middle class family. Edison had an unusually large head and skull other developmental disabilities such as hearing loss and speech difficulties. Infact, he did not start speaking until age 4. He was even suspended from school for a poor academic performance after his teacher lost hope to train him. He developed a keen interest for science and literature.

Disability due to Accidents  

Worldwide, road traffic accidents (RTA) account for more than 1 million deaths and 50 million injuries.  Correct and consistent use of seat belts can reduce  can reduce the risk of death by as much as 61%. The often-neglected act of wearing a helmet can reduce fatal injuries by as much as 45%. Nearly, 20% of all crashes are related to drunken driving and a strict enforcement of driving law can ensure that such accidents become preventable in the real sense.

Autism - A Developmental Disorder

Autism is a form of complex developmental disorder characterized by difficulties in communication, interaction and learning ability. It is the third most common developmental disability, affecting different individuals at varying degrees. An accurate diagnosis of the condition is hence critical for therapeutic intervention. Autistic individuals have more brain cells than that possessed by normal individuals. Appropriate speech therapy instituted to students with autism can help develop speech and language skills by as much as 50%.
